The Magellan Academy Voted #1 by Parents

All childcare centers are not the same.  See how The Magellan Academy offers so many advantages when compared to most other centers

Safety and security are the most important focuses at Magellan Academies.

The Magellan Academy is a leader in the child development community and is highly recognized as great place to work.

About Magellan

The Magellan Academy is the premier child development center, going far beyond its competitors in ensuring safety, sanitation, atmosphere and curriculum. The level of service is unsurpassed, easing the minds of concerned parents that their children are safe and secure.

Safety
The safety of your child takes an unprecedented priority. We take several steps above state requirements to ensure their utmost safety. The Magellan Academy has additional safeguards rarely , if ever provided at any other child development center. There is a nurse’s station with a pediatrics trained Licensed Practical Nurse on duty at all times when the children are present. The nurses not only tend to normal bumps and bruises, but also train the teachers in First Aid, CPR, and SIDS, and supervise all Children's Health and Safety Programs. The company president, as well as the Director of Safety, Sanitation and Health, is a nurse. All incidents are reviewed by the Safety Council to make possible suggestions regarding safety process improvements. While Florida requires only 1 teacher at a childcare location to have CPR/First aid training, ALL teachers at The Magellan Academy are CPR/First Aid certified. Parents are welcomed into the center at any time through the WatchMeGrow® internet cameras. State of the art center access systems are used to strictly control access to the center. The Magellan Academy also uses a state certified mini school bus driven by bus drivers with commercial drivers licenses, with individual safety belts and air conditioning, as opposed to illegal and unsafe adult passenger vans to provide additional safety measures while transporting children.

Sanitation
Proper cleanliness and sanitation are a significant priority at The Magellan Academy. Schools in general can be a considerable source of spreading bacteria and germs. With this in mind The Magellan Academy takes great care in providing the most sanitary setting possible. The nurses regularly check all classrooms and food service areas to ensure proper sanitation procedures are followed. Instead of children eating their meals in the classroom, a separate cafeteria is provided to maintain a healthy classroom environment. The centers are professionally sanitized each night by a contracted janitorial service. These are really clean schools! Shoe covers are required for all workers and visitors to the infant and toddler rooms.

Atmosphere
The Magellan Academy furnishes an environment that is conducive to piquing physical and mental activity. Classrooms are bright and airy with high ceilings and large windows, of course while being kept in strict adherence to our established safety policies. Each classroom is named after explorers, with each location having consistent classroom names based on the level and age of the respective students. Hot meals are prepared fresh daily by our food-safety-certified on-site chef with a menu designed by a licensed Pediatrics Nutritionist. The Pledge of Allegiance and a school prayer are recited on a daily basis. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas, the children stage plays celebrating these holidays. There are graduation ceremonies with full cap, gown and diploma for all graduating children.

Academic Curriculum
The advance academic curriculum employed by The Magellan Academy is second to none. The infants are taught Baby Sign, which assists in communication skills between not only infant and teacher, but also infant and parent. High Reach Learning curriculum will be taught to toddlers, two-, three-, and four-year-olds. Children in the Kindergarten-Preparatory (VPK) classrooms will be educated using the world-renowned A Beka Curriculum. Christian schools throughout the nation recognize that A Beka Book sets the standard of excellence in the publishing of textbooks and other educational materials. Learn more about the A Beka Curriculum (www.abeka.com).

Starting with 2 year olds, your child will be taught the parts of the computer, its operation, and many software programs. Our dedicated resource instructor teaches a small number of children at a time in our computer lab.

Well-Trained Staff

Teachers hired by The Magellan Academy must first pass an intensive orientation. This includes a written test and scrutinized background check. The training does not end at the time of first hiring. Training and improvement continue during their entire tenure with The Magellan Academy through monthly, quarterly, and annual refresher training.

Our wage package is training-, education-, and performance-oriented, which makes our teachers the most highly respected and credentialed cadre in the industry. These lofty academic programs and standards allow students to consistently test out several grades higher than their public school counterparts.

Turnover is not an issue at The Magellan Academy. Magellan teachers move up, not out. Many of our management and staff have been with us for over five years - an unheard-of accomplishment in this field.
