The Magellan Academy was formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in May, 1999, out of the need for first-class quality Christian preschool academics at reasonable rates. The Magellan Academy focused on the need for childcare centers, above all else, to be safe, sanitary, secure and an altogether healthy environment for the children. The first Magellan Academy was opened in Jacksonville's downtown business district on November 27, 2000. The Magellan Academy at Deerwood Park in the Greystone Office Park opened in Summer 2002 and remains a leader in preschool education on the Southside. The Magellan Academy at Centurion Square on Baymeadows Road and Philips Highway opened in December 2003 and was sold in November 2005. The Magellan Academy at Durbin Crossing at Old St. Augustine Road and Philips Highway in Bayard is scheduled to open in Summer 2008. Both Deerwood Park and Durbin Crossing centers feature state-of-the-art child development facilities in 13,000+ square foot, 250+ -child campuses.
